Christine Parr

Christine developed an early interest in rehabilitation as an Occupational Therapy Assistant for Social Services. She went on to train as an Occupational Therapist in 2008, gaining a first class degree from the University of the West of England. Christine completed a series of rotational roles across physical and mental health NHS settings, before specialising in neurological rehabilitation, gaining experience in hospital and community roles.

Christine moved to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court in 2013, working with injured military personnel within the neuro-rehabilitation team and the highly specialist mild Traumatic Brain Injury Team. As well providing the more traditional aspects of occupational therapy she developed specialist skills in cognitive and executive assessment and rehabilitation and vocational assessment and rehabilitation.

As an independent therapist Christine has worked as a Case Manager, predominantly for clients with complex trauma and orthopaedic injuries. As an Occupational Therapist she has been involved in a number projects including; setting up an OT service for an MS charity, setting up and coordinating rehabilitation for an international client, project lead for a Department of Transport accessibility and mobility project and guest lecturer for UCL Disability, Design and Innovation MSc.

As well as offering neuro-rehabilitation Christine has been able to transfer her skills in holistic assessment and treatment to those experiencing Long Covid.

Core and Specialist Skills

• Holistic and comprehensive assessment of client’s occupational performance, occupational dysfunction and occupational imbalance across all domains
• Treatment planning and intervention skills across all areas of occupational performance: Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Domestic ADLs, Social, Leisure, Education and Vocation
• Specialist cognitive and perceptual assessment and treatment across mild, moderate and severe brain injuries, stroke/CVA and a range of neurological and non-neurological conditions
• Assessment and treatment of functional disorders
• Posture, seating and basic ergonomics assessment including wheelchair assessment
• Assessment and treatment of a number of symptoms including fatigue, anxiety, mood, executive difficulties, behaviour modification, headaches, visual difficulties and sleep disturbance.
• Functional neurological upper limb assessment and rehabilitation skills
• Family/carer education and training
• Delivery of individual and group based intervention
• Environmental assessment and recommendations including assessment for minor adaptations and equipment
• High level communication skills using a range of media, capable of adapting styles, including delivery of professional reports to meet the needs of case managers and solicitors
