Melissa Hancock

Melissa qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2002 at the University of Sydney. In Australia her work was varied, completing roles in the private Vocational Rehabilitation sector as well as a Rehabilitation Coordinator for the catastrophic claims department of a leading insurance company. She also gained invaluable experience leading the occupational therapy service in an adult brain injury inpatient rehabilitation and transitional living unit.

Since moving to the UK, Melissa has worked across London and Surrey in neurological, orthopaedic and pain management positions in both the NHS and private sectors including The Wellington Hospital and The Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre.  In 2012 she secured the position as Team Lead for Inpatient Neurological Occupational Therapy at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court until 2018 when she transitioned to independent practice.

She is an experienced therapist offering comprehensive assessments and individual treatment programmes to adults experiencing long term and catastrophic neurological injuries and illness such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis and brain tumours. In addition to this, she has specialist skills in providing cognitive and executive skills assessment and treatment, managing challenging behaviour, complex posture and seating, pain management, sleep assessment and intervention, vocational rehabilitation, fatigue management and providing rehabilitation to patients with medically unexplained or functional cognitive presentations. She enjoys working collaboratively with patients, their families and other therapists to achieve the best rehabilitation outcome possible.
