Ronel Terblanche

Ronel qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2000 in South Africa and moved to the UK in 2001. She started working within military neurological rehabilitation in 2005 and in 2009 became part of the team that designed and implemented the mild traumatic brain injury service. She has worked, both within the military and privately within the field of sports concussion and neurology, for over 17 years and has gained knowledge and experience in evaluating and treating these multifaceted conditions and other neurological conditions. The complexity of neurological injuries, especially mild TBI/concussion are challenging and require a holistic approach to meet the individual’s needs and to support them to rebuild their independence.

Ronel developed an early interest in 2009 in Concussion/Mild traumatic brain injury rehabilitation when she helped set up the highly specialist mild Traumatic Brain Injury Team (also known as concussion) for the UK military, working closely with psychologists to provide holistic support for the specialist needs of this client group.

She developed her skills and experience in the area as well as other neurological conditions. She is skilled in conducting cognitive assessments to inform treatment plans and client-centred goals. Ronel also provides education of relevant stakeholders including care providers, families and the individual on the impact of the neurological and/or physical dysfunction on independence and offers skilled report writing for diverse audiences.

Ronel is a highly motivated clinician with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and her clients’ holistic needs are at the forefront of their treatment plans. She provides specialist Occupational Therapy for individuals via self-referral, case management/insurance referrals and via specialist clinics.

Ronel has achieved a Masters level qualification in Neurological Rehabilitation and was on the NATO mild traumatic brain injury Working group to support streamlining mTBI/concussion processes and procedures across all NATO countries where she presented at 3 lecture series’ across the world. She has also written and contributed to the current mild TBI literature.
